Ingredients
- 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar or honey
- 2¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
- 1¼ cups (300 ml) warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1–2 tbsp flour for shaping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- Knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 60–90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Gently deflate the dough and shape it into a round loaf.
- Place on parchment paper, cover loosely, and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C / 425°F.
- Make a small cut on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until deeply golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped underneath.
- Let cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Tip
For an extra crispy crust, place a small oven-safe pan of hot water on the bottom rack while the bread bakes.
Soft inside, beautifully golden outside, and perfect with butter, soup, or breakfast.
