Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil
- 1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing the top
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the warm milk and melted butter. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently knead for about 1–2 minutes. Do not over-knead.
- Shape the dough into a round or oval loaf and place it on the prepared tray.
- Make 2–3 shallow cuts across the top with a sharp knife.
- Brush the surface lightly with melted butter.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped underneath.
- Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
Tips
For an extra-soft loaf, use whole milk. You can also add ½ teaspoon garlic powder, dried herbs, shredded cheese, or sesame seeds for extra flavor.
