🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3–4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

👩‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1 – Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.

Step 2 – Cook the Ground Beef

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook for 2–3 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Stir in garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Drain excess grease.

Step 3 – Prepare the Creamy Sauce

In a mixing bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.

Step 4 – Layer the Casserole

Arrange half of the thinly sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Spread half of the cooked ground beef over them. Pour over half of the creamy sauce and sprinkle with ½ cup cheddar cheese.

Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, sauce, and another ½ cup of cheese.

Step 5 – Bake

Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 50–60 minutes, until the potatoes are nearly tender.

Step 6 – Add the Cheese

Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the casserole. Bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes, until the potatoes are fork-tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Step 7 – Serve

Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve warm.

❤️ Tips for the Best Casserole

  • Slice potatoes very thinly so they cook evenly.
  • Use sharp cheddar for a richer cheese flavor.
  • Add mozzarella for extra stretchy, melted cheese.
  • For a golden, crispy top, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end, watching carefully.
