Oven: 350°F / 175°C
Ingredients
Crust
- 1½ cups (about 150 g) graham cracker crumbs
- ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted
Layers
- 1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup (170 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup (170 g) butterscotch chips
- 1⅓ cups (about 100 g) shredded coconut
- 1 cup (115 g) chopped pecans or walnuts
The classic version uses essentially these seven components and bakes at 350°F until lightly browned. Eagle Brand
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350°F / 175°C. Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang so you can lift the bars out later.
- Make the crust: Mix the graham cracker crumbs with the melted butter until evenly moistened.
- Press firmly into the bottom of the pan. Use the bottom of a glass or measuring cup to make a compact, even crust.
- Add condensed milk. Pour the entire can evenly over the crust.
- Add chocolate: Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the condensed milk.
- Add butterscotch chips.
- Add coconut, distributing it evenly.
- Finish with the chopped nuts. Gently press everything down with the back of a fork or spatula so the layers adhere.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the coconut and edges are golden brown and the condensed milk is bubbling around the edges. Eagle Brand+1
- Cool completely. This is important—the filling firms up considerably as it cools. For exceptionally clean cuts, refrigerate for about 30–60 minutes after cooling. King Arthur Baking
- Lift out using the parchment and cut into squares.
⭐ To make them look more like your photo
I’d make them extra thick and loaded:
- 1½ cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup butterscotch chips
- 1½ cups chopped pecans
- 1½ cups shredded coconut
- Keep the full 14-oz can of condensed milk
- Use a 9×13 pan rather than a larger pan.
You can also use a mixture of milk chocolate + semi-sweet chocolate chips for those big, soft chocolate pockets visible in the photo.
Important: Don’t substitute evaporated milk for sweetened condensed milk—the condensed milk is what creates the characteristic gooey, caramelized filling. Just a Taste
