Ingredients
3½ cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
2¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
2 tablespoons sugar
1½ teaspoons salt
1 cup warm water (about 110°F, like warm bath water)
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt
Pour in the warm water and stir until a sticky dough forms
Do not overmix, just combine everything
Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap
Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours, until doubled in size
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)
Lightly grease a loaf pan or baking dish
Transfer the dough into the pan (it will be sticky, that’s normal)
Let it rest for another 20 to 30 minutes
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown on top
Remove from the oven and let it cool before slicing
Tips
If the dough feels too dry, add a little more warm water
If too sticky, sprinkle a bit more flour
You can bake it on a tray for a rustic shape instead of a loaf pan
Brush the top with a little water before baking for a crisp crust
Result
Soft inside, slightly crispy outside, and super budget-friendly
Once you try this, store-bought bread really starts to feel unnecessary
