These soft, cinnamon-spiced apple fritters are packed with tender apple pieces and finished with a sweet vanilla glaze. The photo shows the first three ingredients, so the recipe below completes the missing measurements in a practical baked-fritter version.
Ingredients
For the Apple Fritters
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
2 large eggs
2/3 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped
Cooking spray or a little melted butter for the baking sheet
For the Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently just until a thick batter forms. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed.
- Scoop the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, using about 1/4 cup of batter for each fritter. Gently flatten each mound slightly.
- Bake for approximately 15–20 minutes, or until the fritters are puffed and golden brown around the edges.
- For a more golden, crisp exterior, brush the tops lightly with melted butter during the final few minutes of baking.
- Remove from the oven and allow the fritters to cool for about 5 minutes.
Vanilla Glaze
- Place the powdered sugar in a small bowl.
- Add 2 tablespoons of milk and the vanilla extract.
- Whisk until smooth. Add a little more milk if the glaze is too thick, or more powdered sugar if it is too thin.
- Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm apple fritters.
- Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
Tips
Use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for a nice balance of sweet and tart flavor.
Cut the apples into small pieces so they soften properly while the fritters bake.
Do not overmix the batter, or the fritters can become dense.
For extra cinnamon flavor, add a small pinch of cinnamon to the glaze.
These are best served warm, when the apples are tender and the glaze is slightly melted.
Yield: about 10–12 fritters
Prep time: 15 minutes
Bake time: 15–20 minutes
Total time: about 35 minutes
A very similar apple-fritter ingredient structure uses 2 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, eggs, milk, vanilla, apples, and a powdered-sugar glaze. (fordishes.com)
