Marbled No-Churn Vanilla & Chocolate Ice Cream

This creamy homemade ice cream is inspired by the dessert in your photo: a rich vanilla base swirled with chocolate for a beautiful marble effect. No ice-cream maker is needed.

Ingredients

For the vanilla ice cream:

  • 2 cups (480 ml) heavy whipping cream, very cold
  • 1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the chocolate swirl:

  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional:

  • 2 tablespoons chocolate spread for a richer swirl
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

Instructions

  1. Make the chocolate mixture
In a small bowl, whisk the cocoa powder with hot water until completely smooth. Stir in the condensed milk and vanilla. Set aside to cool.
  2. Whip the cream
Pour the cold heavy cream into a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat.
  3. Make the vanilla base
Gently fold the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt into the whipped cream. Fold until smooth and creamy.
  4. Create the marble effect
Transfer about one-third of the vanilla mixture into a freezer-safe container. Drizzle a few spoonfuls of the chocolate mixture over it. Add another layer of vanilla ice cream, followed by more chocolate.
  5. Swirl
Use the tip of a knife or a skewer to gently make large swirling motions through the mixture. Don’t overmix—you want distinct chocolate ribbons.
  6. Freeze
Smooth the top and cover tightly. Freeze for at least 6–8 hours, preferably overnight.
  7. Serve
Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for about 5–10 minutes before scooping. Serve in bowls or cones with extra chocolate sauce if desired.

Tips for the creamiest texture

  • Use very cold heavy cream.
  • Don’t overmix after adding the condensed milk.
  • Make only a few swirls so the chocolate remains visibly marbled.
  • Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface before covering to help prevent ice crystals.
  • For an extra-soft, luxurious texture, add 2 tablespoons of chocolate spread to the chocolate swirl.

Yield

About 1½–2 quarts (1.4–1.9 liters), depending on the container and how much air is incorporated.

Storage

Keep tightly covered in the freezer for up to about 2 weeks for the best texture and flavor.
