Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Ingredients

Steaks
500 g ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Onion Gravy
2 tablespoons butter or oil
1 large onion, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into oval patties (about 4–5 steaks).
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add butter or oil and cook the sliced onions over medium heat until soft and caramelized (about 8–10 minutes).
  5. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well. Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  6. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.

Tip
For extra flavor, add sliced mushrooms to the gravy or a splash of cream at the end for richness.
