Natural Hair Darkening Shampoo

(Coffee • Rosemary • Avocado Seed • Cinnamon)

This homemade herbal shampoo blend is designed to naturally darken gray/white hairs, nourish the scalp, and strengthen hair strands without harsh chemicals. The combination of coffee, rosemary, avocado seed, and cinnamon creates a rich, stimulating formula that promotes healthy, shiny, and darker-looking hair.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee (cooled – natural dark dye effect)
  • 2 tbsp ground coffee (extra richness and color)
  • 1 avocado seed (dried, grated, or ground into powder – strengthens hair)
  • 2–3 cinnamon sticks (or 2 tbsp ground cinnamon – improves circulation and adds shine)
  • 1 cup fresh rosemary leaves (or 3 tbsp dried rosemary – stimulates follicles, darkens hair)
  • 2 cups distilled water
  • 1 tbsp natural liquid castile soap (base cleanser – optional if making shampoo, skip if making rinse)
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or olive oil (for moisture and shine)
  • 10 drops rosemary essential oil (optional, for extra strength and fragrance)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the avocado seed
  • Wash and dry the avocado seed.
  • Grate or grind it into small pieces (you can roast it slightly to make grinding easier).
  1. Make the herbal infusion
  • In a pot, add distilled water, rosemary, avocado seed pieces, and cinnamon sticks.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 20–25 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let it steep for another 15 minutes.
  1. Strain the mixture
  • Use a fine strainer or cheesecloth to remove solids.
  • You should now have a rich, dark herbal liquid.
  1. Add coffee
  • Mix in the brewed strong coffee and ground coffee while the infusion is still warm. Stir well.
  1. Enrich with oils & soap
  • Add coconut/olive oil and liquid castile soap. Stir gently until well combined.
  • If desired, add a few drops of rosemary essential oil for a stronger scent and benefits.
  1. Cool & Store
  • Pour into a pump bottle or glass jar.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks (since it’s natural and preservative-free).

How to Use

  • As a Shampoo:
  • Apply to wet hair, massage into scalp for 3–5 minutes, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse.
  • As a Hair Rinse:
  • Skip the castile soap, apply after regular shampooing, leave on for 15–20 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
  • Use 2–3 times a week for best results.

Benefits

  • Coffee – Naturally stains and darkens hair, adds shine.
  • Rosemary – Stimulates hair growth, prevents dandruff, darkens grays gradually.
  • Avocado Seed – Rich in antioxidants, strengthens and prevents breakage.
  • Cinnamon – Boosts scalp circulation, helps with hair thickness and luster.
