Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients

1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
1 large onion, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
1/4 cup beef broth or water
Salt to taste
Optional sliced green onions for serving

Method

Step 1
Place the sliced flank steak in a bowl. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and sesame oil. Mix well until the beef is evenly coated. Let marinate for 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 2
Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan.

Step 3
Add the marinated beef in a single layer. Sear quickly for 1 to 2 minutes per side until just browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Step 4
In the same pan, add garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 20 seconds until fragrant.

Step 5
Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly softened but still crisp.

Step 6
Return the beef to the pan. Sprinkle in the black pepper and add the beef broth. Stir everything together and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the steak and vegetables.

Step 7
Taste and adjust seasoning with salt if needed. Remove from heat.
