Cheesy Sausage Crescent Rolls

Introduction

These golden, flaky rolls are filled with a creamy sausage mixture that makes them perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a party appetizer. They combine the richness of cream cheese with the savory flavor of sausage, all wrapped in buttery pastry. Soft inside, crisp outside—absolutely irresistible!

Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (pork, chicken, or turkey)
  • 1 package (8 oz / 225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella for a stretchier filling)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

For the Dough

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (or homemade puff pastry, about 500 g)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (to mix with the egg wash)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Break it up into crumbles.
  2. Drain excess fat and let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the sausage, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, pepper, and parsley until creamy and well combined.

Step 2: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease or line a large baking tray.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough. Separate into triangles (if using crescent rolls) or cut puff pastry into rectangles.

Step 3: Assemble the Rolls

  1. Place about 1 tablespoon of filling at the wide end of each dough piece.
  2. Roll up tightly, starting from the wide end to the narrow tip, tucking in the sides slightly to hold the filling.
  3. Arrange on the baking tray, leaving space between rolls.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Brush the tops with the egg wash (egg + milk mixture).
  2. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  3. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
