The Best Goulash Recipe
Goulash is a comforting, hearty dish that has been a favorite for generations. Here’s a recipe that will surely bring back those childhood memories and become a staple in your kitchen.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 2 cups water
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Brown the Beef: In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Cook the Onions and Garlic: Add the chopped onions to the beef and cook until they are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add Liquids and Spices: Pour in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes (with their juices), and water. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, paprika, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Cook the Pasta: Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni, making sure it’s submerged in the liquid. Cover the skillet or pot and simmer for another 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Add Cheese (Optional): If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and well combined.
