French Onion Noodle Casserole

Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef (optional but recommended)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef broth or beef consommé
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles
Boil egg noodles in salted water according to package directions. Drain and place them in a greased baking dish.
  2. Cook the beef and onions
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add diced onion and cook until soft.
Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until browned.
  3. Add the soups
Stir in the French onion soup and beef broth.
Simmer for about 3–4 minutes so the flavors combine.
  4. Assemble the casserole
Pour the beef and onion mixture over the cooked noodles in the baking dish (like in the picture).
  5. Add cheese
Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top.
  6. Bake
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the cheese melts.

Optional Toppings

  • Crispy fried onions
  • Fresh parsley
  • Extra cheese

Tips

  • You can skip the ground beef for a lighter version and keep it as an onion noodle bake.
  • Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Swiss cheese gives the best “French onion soup” taste.

Result: A rich, savory, creamy noodle casserole that’s cheap, filling, and perfect for family dinners.
