Ingredients
- 12 oz egg noodles
- 1 lb ground beef (optional but recommended)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) beef broth or beef consommé
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the noodles
Boil egg noodles in salted water according to package directions. Drain and place them in a greased baking dish. - Cook the beef and onions
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add diced onion and cook until soft.
Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until browned. - Add the soups
Stir in the French onion soup and beef broth.
Simmer for about 3–4 minutes so the flavors combine. - Assemble the casserole
Pour the beef and onion mixture over the cooked noodles in the baking dish (like in the picture). - Add cheese
Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top. - Bake
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the cheese melts.

Tips
- You can skip the ground beef for a lighter version and keep it as an onion noodle bake.
- Add mushrooms for extra flavor.
- Swiss cheese gives the best “French onion soup” taste.
