BIG FLUFFY PAN-FRIED MILK BUNS (NO OVEN)

Soft inside, golden outside, slightly sweet – perfect for breakfast or tea.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • Oil for frying (neutral oil)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add eggs, oil (or butter), vanilla, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
(You can lightly oil your hands instead of adding extra flour.)
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into medium balls (about the size of a small orange).
  7. Flatten each ball slightly into a thick disc.
  8. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat.
  9. Fry the buns gently, turning often, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through.
(Low heat is important so they stay fluffy inside.)
  10. Remove and drain on paper towels.
