Ingredients
Salisbury Steaks
- 500 g ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon milk or water (optional, for extra juiciness)
Onion Gravy
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth (warm)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Salisbury Steaks
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and milk (if using).
- Mix gently until just combined — do not overmix or the steaks will be tough.
- Divide the mixture into 4–5 oval-shaped patties, slightly flatter than regular burgers.
Brown the Steaks
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a little oil.
- Add the patties and cook for 3–4 minutes per side until nicely browned.
- Remove steaks from the pan and set aside (they’ll finish cooking later).
Make the Onion Gravy
- In the same skillet, add butter or oil.
- Add sliced onions and cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 3–5 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
Simmer the Steaks
- Return the browned Salisbury steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
- Spoon gravy over the tops.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 12–15 minutes, until steaks are fully cooked and tender.
