- ½ cup (100 g) sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- ½ cup (120 ml) cherry juice or water
- 2–4 tbsp Kirsch (optional but traditional)
For the Whipped Cream Frosting
- 3 cups (720 ml) heavy cream (cold)
- ¾ cup (90 g) powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
1. Make the Chocolate Cake Layers
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch (20 cm) cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add sugar and mix.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
- Add the hot water or coffee and mix briefly. Batter will be thin.

- Add the final cake layer.
