Ingredients
For the Filling
- 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (pork, chicken, or turkey)
- 1 package (8 oz / 225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella for a stretchier filling)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
For the Dough
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (or homemade puff pastry, about 500 g)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (to mix with the egg wash)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Break it up into crumbles.
- Drain excess fat and let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, mix together the sausage, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, pepper, and parsley until creamy and well combined.
Step 2: Prepare the Dough
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly grease or line a large baking tray.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough. Separate into triangles (if using crescent rolls) or cut puff pastry into rectangles.
Step 3: Assemble the Rolls
- Place about 1 tablespoon of filling at the wide end of each dough piece.
- Roll up tightly, starting from the wide end to the narrow tip, tucking in the sides slightly to hold the filling.
- Arrange on the baking tray, leaving space between rolls.
Step 4: Bake
- Brush the tops with the egg wash (egg + milk mixture).
- Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
