2 medium Granny Smith apples (or any tart, firm apple)
2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 rolls each)
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 can (12 oz) Mountain Dew, Sprite, or 7-Up (yes, the soda helps caramelize!)
Optional: pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth
Instructions
Step 1 – Prep the Apples
Peel the apples, core them, and cut each apple into 8 wedges. Tip: Keep the slices even so they cook evenly inside the rolls.
Step 2 – Wrap the Dumplings
Open the crescent roll cans and separate the dough into triangles.
Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up snugly, tucking the ends in slightly.
Arrange the rolled dumplings in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 3 – Make the Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Heat until the sugar is well incorporated (it will be grainy — that’s fine).
Step 4 – Assemble
Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings.
Slowly pour the Mountain Dew around (not over) the dumplings in the pan. The soda will mix with the butter-sugar sauce to create a caramel glaze while baking.
Step 5 – Bake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
Step 6 – Serve
Let them cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.
Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Extra Tips
Use tart apples for the best sweet-tart flavor balance.
Don’t skip the soda — it gives the dumplings their gooey caramel magic.
If you want less sweetness, reduce the sugar to 1 cup and use diet soda.
