
Creamy Meat Stuffed Puff Pastry Rolls
Ingredients**
For the Dough (Quick Puff Pastry-style):
- 3 ½ cups (450 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 packet (7 g) instant yeast
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk
- 1 egg
- ¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
For the Filling:
- 250 g ground beef or sausage (or turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella or white cheese
- 3 tbsp cream cheese or béchamel sauce (optional for creaminess)
For Assembly:
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (egg wash)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions**
1. Prepare the Dough:
- Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and beaten egg.
- Gradually mix in cold butter cubes by rubbing them slightly into the flour (do not fully melt; they’ll create layers).
- Knead briefly until a rough dough forms. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
2. Make the Filling:
- In a pan, heat olive oil. Add onions, garlic, and sauté until translucent.
- Add ground meat, seasonings, and cook until browned. Remove from heat and cool.
- Mix in the shredded cheese and cream cheese/béchamel. Set aside.
3. Shape the Rolls:
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle (½ cm thick).
- Cut into rectangles (approx. 10×12 cm).
- Add 1 tbsp of filling near the edge and roll tightly into a log shape.
- Place seam side down on a greased tray or baking sheet.
4. Bake:
- Brush each roll with egg wash.
- Let rise for another 15–20 minutes while oven preheats to 190°C (375°F).
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden and puffed.
Serving Suggestions:
- Perfect warm as a snack or breakfast.
- Serve with a yogurt dip or mint tea.
