  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cabbage:
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage.
  • Place the whole cabbage head in the boiling water for a few minutes, then remove. Peel off the softened outer leaves. Repeat until you have enough leaves for rolling.
  1. Prepare the Filling:
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  1. Roll the Cabbage:
  • Place a large spoonful of the beef mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf.
  • Fold the sides over the filling and roll up from the thick end of the leaf. Place seam-side down in a large baking dish.
  1. Prepare the Sauce:
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, brown sugar, lemon juice, and water.
  1. Cook the Rolls:
  • Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls, making sure they are well covered.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
  1. Serve:
  • Let the rolls rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious stuffed cabbage rolls!

  1. If it cooks for nearly two hours why use cooked rice instead of uncooked rice? Doesn’t the rice get mushy? My mom never used cooked rice.
