Homemade Peach Ice Cream

Homemade Peach Ice Cream

Ingredients

For the Peach Mixture:

  • 6-8 ripe peaches (about 2 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Ice Cream Base:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peaches:
  • Peel, pit, and chop the peaches into small pieces.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the chopped peaches, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the peaches with sugar and let sit for about 30 minutes to an hour. This will allow the peaches to release their juices and become syrupy.
  1. Make the Peach Puree:
  • After the peaches have macerated, transfer them to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, but leave a few small chunks if you prefer a bit of texture in your ice cream.
  1. Prepare the Ice Cream Base:
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  1. Combine Peach Puree with Ice Cream Base:
  • Add the peach puree to the ice cream base and stir until well combined.
  1. Chill the Mixture:
  • Cover the mixture and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible. This will help it churn better and develop more flavor.
  1. Churn the Ice Cream:
  • Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes.
  1. Freeze to Firm Up:
  • Once the ice cream has thickened and reached a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to an airtight container. Place it in the freezer for at least 2 hours to firm up before serving.
  1. Serve and Enjoy:
  • Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy!

Tips

  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can still make this ice cream using a no-churn method. Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container and stir every 30 minutes for the first 2 hours to break up ice crystals, then let it freeze solid.
  • For a more intense peach flavor, you can add a bit of peach extract or use a bit of peach schnapps in the base, but be cautious as it can impact the texture.

Enjoy your homemade peach ice cream!
